The Liebherr T 264 mining truck was one of the top attractions for Expomin 2014. After being transported from the US Liebherr factory by sea, the T 264 was then assembled at the show site in the same manner as it would be at any mine site. It took the team of ten Liebherr technicians and engineers from Chile, Australia, and the USA twelve calendar days of assembly time to complete the truck for the show. The T 264 at Expomin 2014 is the first of many of this model expected to come to Chile. Fly by of Williams open pit Gold Mine in Ontario
On a VFR flight from Geraldton Ontario to Sault Ste Marie I used the Williams open pit mine as a check point. Its right on the trans canada and easy to spot from miles away so its a awesome landmark to use. The Williams mine is jointly owned by Teck Cominco and Barrick Gold. Its Primarily an underground operation now but it started off with some open-pit mining, it has been operating since the fall of 1985. It is set to close soon as it is almost played out. The Williams mine is one of the largest gold-producing mines in Canada! I was Flying a DA-20 C-FRIZ on a cross country ferry from Cooking lake Alberta to Buttonville Ontario.

Primitive Technology: Stone Axe (celt)
The manufacture of a stone ax including the handle from using only primitive tools and materials. It is a celt (pronounced "selt") a type of ax with a polished stone head wedged into a hole or mortise at the end of a wooden handle (not to be confused with a "Kelt" referring to a Celtic person). The head took about a week and a day to make as I chose to make it from a particularly large piece of basalt. The hammer stone used to shape the basalt was of quartz. This involved hammering, pecking, grinding and polishing the head into the final shape. The handle took a day and a morning to make. A chisel was made from stone and a mallet made from a log. These were used to cut the tree for the handle and shape it once down. Fire was used to harden the wood and also to help shape the mortise. The ax was then used to cut down a tree the day after the handle was a tree itself. It is a more efficient tool for felling trees than the hand ax I made and at the time of uploading this video has cut down 4 trees which I will use later. Because this stone axe is blunter than a steel one, the blade needs to hit the tree at angles greater than 45 degrees- otherwise the blade would glance off. http://www.tranbc.ca Say hello to the latest weapon against snow covered highways in B.C., the Tow Plow, a new technology used to maintain our roads. This unit is actually two plows in one; it allows one truck and operator to do the equivalent of two passes, which translates into cleared roads, faster! While the tow plow may look very wide and difficult to handle, it is more responsive than the traditional wing plows; the operator can quickly manoeuvre around obstacles on the road like signs or parked cars. This is fairly new technology, and you can expect to see them on selected B.C. highways this winter. TranBC allocates approximately $356 million each year for highway maintenance with maintenance resources across British Columbia and in every corner. Development[edit] The AK-630 CIWS is composed of several members and sometimes the CADS-N-1 Kashtan's sub-systems and its derivatives are also included. AK-630[edit] The design of the AK-630 CIWS was initiated in 1963, with the first operational prototype completed in 1964. Trials of the complete system, including radar and controls went on until 1976 when the system was accepted for service. AK-630M[edit] During the deployment of the system, numerous problems that did not appear in trials were exposed in its application, and some modification of the original AK-630 was made to correct these problems, and in 1979, the new system was named as AK-630M and was accepted into service.

Amazing 600hp Nissan SKYLINE GT-R R34 - Passenger view - Realistic POV! Loud Turbo! More Info and tags: The single-turbo R32 and R33 Nissan Skyline models are some of the most loved Japanese import vehicles - and with good reason. The late 'Lines offer terrific ruggedness, a good measure of straight-line speed and handling that can be, well, entertaining. The RB-series turbomotors are also incredibly responsive to power-up mods, making them a popular choice amongst enthusiasts.In Australia at present, however, you don't find many R34 model Skylines lining the streets - only a few GT-Rs and a sprinkling of single turbo and atmo versions. If our road test 1999 Skyline 25GTt (supplied by Melbourne's Sports and Luxury Cars) is anything to go by, though, we reckon it'll only be a matter of time before they really start to catch on. The R34 is not a huge progression over the R33 - it offers similar performance, feel and practicality - but it does offer a few advantages or, at least, differences..The biggest difference of the R34 is styling - both inside and out.While the '33 interior is decidedly bland, the 34's indoors is a whole lot more interesting. The dashboard is creatively sculpted and has sprouted three central gauges that let you view boost pressure, battery voltage and oil temperature. Bulging below this is the operating area for the digital climate control (note that the R34 uses a rotary temperature control that is a whole lot easier to operate than the up/down buttons found in earlier models). Aside from climate control, the R34 also offers power windows and mirrors, central locking and a reasonable speaker system. The seats offer decent lateral support and are quite comfortable overall, but are lacking a little bit of lumbar supportOur test vehicle was also equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission that showed a definite advantage over previous auto models - tiptronic-style gear selection. Gears can be manually engaged by bumping the gear lever (forward for upchanges, back for downchanges) or via a pair of up/downchange buttons on the steering wheel; the latter beingquite awkward to use and a bit of a gimmick. Visually, the R34 is much more distinctive than the '33 and is widely regarded as the better looker. It does look a little narrow-gutted and awkward from some angles, however - with the standard ride height at least. Starting at the nose, the R34 is relatively upright but scores points for its Xenon low-beam headlights and aggressive front spoiler with side exits (the exits on the passenger's side are to let warmed air escape from behind the air-to-air intercooler that's mounted within the guard). From the front of the car extend side skirts, while Nissan's traditional 'stove top' taillights characterize the rear. As you can see, the R34 also flaunts a rear wing that's quite large for a non GT-R Skyline. Oh, and note that 17-inch rims come as standard on R34 turbos - the ones fitted to this vehicle are aftermarket jobs. The powerplant is the RB25DET as introduced in the R33 GTS25T. In R34 form, however, the engine is upgraded to more environmentally friendly 'NEO' specs. The NEO RB25DET also features a hot-wire airflow meter, 9.0:1 static compression, air-to-air intercooler, ceramic turbine roller-bearing turbocharger, blow-off valve and variable inlet cam timing. With manifold boost pressure of around 60 - 70 kPa (as shown on the factory boost gauge) the R34 25GTt is listed at 206kW at 6400 and 343Nm at 3200 rpm. The R34 25GTt scores its extra power over previous models thanks to a larger turbo (providing a healthier amount of boost), better intercooler, an improved exhaust system and engine management updates. Teamed with the auto trans in our test car, the 25GTt's engine offers typical turbo-like throttle response (dull in other words) and the shooting match sounds a little busy and unrefined at low speeds - the torque converter flares under load and the turbo whizzes and whooshes to get you up to the speed limit. The R34 is not a particularly quiet vehicle. Get it up on boost, however, and the car hauls reasonably well to its 7000 rpm cut-out; our automatic trans test car accelerated from a standing start to 100 km/h in a hand-timed mid-to-high 7-seconds (with two people on board). Note that, despite being more compact than its predecessor, the R34 25GTt auto weighs some 1430kg - around 50kg heavier than the R33!

Spanish/Nat An U-S organisation has donated hundreds of prostheses to Central Americans who lost their limbs in the region's civil wars. The group has already donated some three-thousand prostheses over the past 15 years to disabled people throughout Central America. It was a humanitarian action to help war veterans rebuild their lives. An American group known as the U-S Wings of Calvary Foundation- summoned hundreds of war veterans and other people affected by the war in the northern town of Santa Ana, in El Salvador, to donate 120 prostheses. People came from all over Central America especially Guatemala and Honduras. They had lost their limbs in wars in their respective countries. Members of the foundation say their main goal is to help these men and women rebuild their lives and become useful citizens. Wings of Calvary also donated shoes and wheel chairs. In 15 years the group has donated over three-thousand prostheses not only to war veterans but also to civilians caught up in the conflicts. But with so many people crippled, the number of prostheses is never enough. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "They come here with the only hope that they'll get their prosthesis and, unfortunately, on this occasion they only brought 120 and only yesterday , 600 crippled people came. To me it was really painful to have to send 94 back without anything. It is sad." In El Salvador former soldiers and guerrillas have asked the government for compensation and land since the peace accords were signed in 1992. At tremendous risk to his own safety, Balog has been documenting the erosion of glaciers in Switzerland, Greenland, Iceland, and Alaska. He joins Bill to share his photos and discoveries, describing his process and transformation from climate change skeptic to true believer. Balog's soon-to-be-released film, Chasing Ice, is a breathtaking account of climate change in action. Afterward, Bill explores a judicial system under partisan attack. Thirty-eight states now elect their high court judges. Over the last decade, $200 million -- much of it secret and tied to partisan agendas -- has poured into these judicial campaigns. In Florida, Pennsylvania, and Iowa, for example, justices are being targeted by radical groups that abhor judicial independence and want the courts to reflect their own political biases. In Iowa, a state whose judicial system has been praised for its fairness and impartiality, the political and religious Right ousted three justices in 2010 over marriage equality, and is now trying to take down a fourth over the same issue. But this time a bipartisan coalition called Justice Not Politics is fighting back. Its co-founders -- Democrat Sally Pederson and Republican Joy Corning, each of whom served Iowa for eight years as lieutenant governor -- talk with Bill about what's at stake when justices are at the mercy of partisan passions and money in politics.

Interrogating these sensors relies on the ability to accurately determine the sub-nanometre movements of the cantilever. Here we investigate a technique based on the combination of integrated silicon photonics and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) to create an optically resonant microcavity and demonstrate its use for monitoring of the position of cantilevers on the picometer scale under ambient conditions with dynamic range extending over several microns. The technique is interferometric, and we show it to be sufficiently sensitive to measure both the first and second modes of cantilever Brownian motion. Set in a period when gasoline engines were in their infancy and automobiles were rare, and when even Chief Inspectors had to engage a carriage and horses to move about, the appearance of a vehicle that can move at astounding speeds on land, on water - and as later revealed, underwater and through the air - marks a technological advance far beyond the reach of nations. My advice is this: Settle! That's right. Don't worry about passion or intense connection. Don't nix a guy based on his annoying habit of yelling "Bravo!" in movie theaters. Overlook his halitosis or abysmal sense of aesthetics. Because if you want to have the infrastructure in place to have a family, settling is the way to go. Based on my observations, in fact, settling will probably make you happier in the long run, since many of those who marry with great expectations become more disillusioned with each passing year. (It's hard to maintain that level of zing when the conversation morphs into discussions about who's changing the diapers or balancing the checkbook.) Obviously, I wasn't always an advocate of settling. In fact, it took not settling to make me realize that settling is the better option, and even though settling is a rampant phenomenon, talking about it in a positive light makes people profoundly uncomfortable. Whenever I make the case for settling, people look at me with creased brows of disapproval or frowns of disappointment, the way a child might look at an older sibling who just informed her that Jerry's Kids aren't going to walk, even if you send them money. It's not only politically incorrect to get behind settling, it's downright un-American. Our culture tells us to keep our eyes on the prize (while our mothers, who know better, tell us not to be so picky), and the theme of holding out for true love (whatever that is—look at the divorce rate) permeates our collective mentality. Even situation comedies, starting in the 1970s with The Mary Tyler Moore Show and going all the way to Friends, feature endearing single women in the dating trenches, and there's supposed to be something romantic and even heroic about their search for true love. Of course, the crucial difference is that, whereas the earlier series begins after Mary has been jilted by her fiancé, the more modern-day Friends opens as Rachel Green leaves her nice-guy orthodontist fiancé at the altar simply because she isn't feeling it. But either way, in episode after episode, as both women continue to be unlucky in love, settling starts to look pretty darn appealing. Mary is supposed to be contentedly independent and fulfilled by her newsroom family, but in fact her life seems lonely. Are we to assume that at the end of the series, Mary, by then in her late 30s, found her soul mate after the lights in the newsroom went out and her work family was disbanded? If her experience was anything like mine or that of my single friends, it's unlikely. And while Rachel and her supposed soul mate, Ross, finally get together (for the umpteenth time) in the finale of Friends, do we feel confident that she'll be happier with Ross than she would have been had she settled down with Barry, the orthodontist, 10 years earlier? She and Ross have passion but have never had long-term stability, and the fireworks she experiences with him but not with Barry might actually turn out to be a liability, given how many times their relationship has already gone up in flames. It's equally questionable whether Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw, who cheated on her kindhearted and generous boyfriend, Aidan, only to end up with the more exciting but self-absorbed Mr. Big, will be better off in the framework of marriage and family. (Some time after the breakup, when Carrie ran into Aidan on the street, he was carrying his infant in a Baby Björn. Can anyone imagine Mr. Big walking around with a Björn?)
